Breathing and Meditation Teacher- You can Overcome Anxiety Being a horse rider I know the importance of breathing into your body. When we breathe correctly into our core it nourishes our muscles with the oxygen we need for strength and stamina to complete the course. Deep breathing also calms us in moments of anxiety, going for a difficult jump, a dressage test or just to ground us in the present moment and let go of negative thoughts of the past, when we fell off, or our horse did something unpredictable etc
As teacher of breathwork I know how our mind affects our riding and the fulfillment of our true riding potential.
Even though we love riding and being around horses and all the joy riding brings us, some riders are anxious before they even mount their horse. Thinking about all the negative scenarios they might encounter (which in reality are extremely rare). This mindset immediately takes you out of the beautiful experience of riding in the moment and affects the connection we have with our horse. Our horse immediately picks up on our anxiety. You can overcome your anxiety through breathwork.
If you're an experienced and successful rider and want to optimize your riding skills then these tools enable you to ride with greater connection, awareness - mind, body and soul. Breathwork and a positive mindset enables you to achieve that.
Sometimes our practice at home, show jumping, dressage, cross country etc is perfect yet when we are at the competition our focus goes awry and our nerves get the better of us. Conscious Breathwork can sharpen our focus and concentration, root us in the present moment and bring us body awareness so our body is in the correct position without obsessing about it.
If you have recovered from a riding accident and are keen to ride again yet feel your confidence has taken a knock or you have lost your trust in your horse, breathwork and an ability to let go of negativity with a positive mindset will enable you to rebuild that confidence and trust in yourself as a rider and your horse.
If you would like to build a deeper connection with your horse, trust and true partnership then breathing in sync with your horse will build an unbreakable bond between the two of you.

My Practice is located at Ballyhara Cottage, Blainroe, Wicklow. Below is a great warm up standing meditation to stretch your body and quieten your mind before a competition or just for warming up generally or for riding,
This is myself and my amazing horse Del Boy. I have been riding since I was 14 so I fully understand the needs of horse riders. I have ridden racehorses in professional training, cross country and drag hunting.
I thought I’d share with you why I set up Breathe to Believe in Yourself and Your Horse. I have always loved riding whether it s my own horses over the years or when I used to ride racehorses in Lambourn and Newmarket up to my mid thirties. When I started in horseracing it was a very different set up. Hardly any girls in the yards and the lads were very tough on us, there was no PC brigade and if you fell off or passed anyone out during a canter the derogatory remarks made you toughen up and even more determined not to fall off . Or find a way to ride with finesse and style rather that strength which is the basis of good riding anyway.
Some days were great riding work up the gallops others not so when the self doubt crept in or when you had to ride a horse that you couldn’t get the hang of. You often rode different horses every day of the week depending on the horse’s training schedule.
Even after all those years I never felt I rode consistently or to the best that I could due to the way I felt about myself or that I was in awe of the very talented riders or sometimes the negative comments which were usually just the lads joking around just got to me.
Years later after learning breathwork from a gifted healer in Spain I started to feel different about life and myself and I found my riding magically changed without at first really understanding why.
When I rode out with friends on a variety of horses after a couple of years break as I was living in Spain, I found that I could connect with every horse I rode, none of the horses pulled with me and they usually went well for me when I’d seen other riders struggle with them.
I finally realized because I was much more settled in myself, calm, relaxed and brave. The horses reacted in a much kinder way. My connection with horses had transformed.
By Then I’d been practicing breathwork, yoga and Qi Gong and teaching for sometime.
Finally I was able to buy my own horse and although some days haven’t been perfect I was able to pinpoint through my own self awareness what went wrong on the day, correct my position or action and work quietly with my horse to regain the confidence and connection that might have been severed by an unusual twist of fate. Things happen and horse riding will always carry a risk but when the good days far outweigh the bad for the exhilaration of riding across this glorious countryside with our friends nothing can beat the joy riding brings us.
So I just want to pass this life skill on to others who find anxiety or nerves get in the way of riding the way we really want to ride. To be able to trust our ability and trust that our horse will listen and connect to us in an intangible way. It worked for me and reading more about Natural Horsemanship this is an essential tool to be the best we can in life and whilst following our passion.
I have now guided many people to reach their full riding potential and truly enjoy every moment riding in whatever modal of horse sport they love. About my Journey In 2002 when I was tutoring foreign language students for important exams which would gain them entry into English speaking universities, I was concerned that stress regarding the exams was affecting their performance in mock exams. I started to teach my students breathing techniques they could use to cope with the exam day and in preparation. When I started to receive call after call thanking me as this time they had passed the exam and were at last able to train for their dream profession, I knew that 'conscious breathing' was definitely a life changing skill.
I started researching and studying many modes of conscious breathing, movement with meditation plus pain management and have now been training my clients with these holistic therapies for 15 years. I have witnessed life changing transformations.
Previously I have worked in highly stressed corporate and creative environments so I have a thorough understanding of business life and family life.
I have trained a cross section of society including Doctors, dentists, lawyers, CEO's of major companies, managers, nurses, social workers, cancer survivors and those in treatment, people suffering chronic pain and illness, depression and more equally to those who just want to find more contentment in life.
Most days I receive messages of gratitude. I respect my clients and feel the Health of our Mind and Well Being are private matters and I would never seek testimonials. I'm so pleased that all those years ago I saw Meditation and Mindfulness as a far reaching and life enhancing skill that enables anyone to lead a more contented and fulfilled life. Fortunately nowadays Science and the Medical profession has also recognized this as a genuine Holistic Therapy.
