How do deep breathing techniques work?
Coping with Everyday and Cumulative Stress in the Work Place.
When we are unable to switch off from work mode in our home life, when thinking about work starts to affect our regular sleep patterns, when the work place becomes a source of tension and a myriad of other reasons these are the signals work life stress is affecting you or your colleagues. Stress lowers our immune system and our general coping skills. By bringing mindfulness to a huge part of our lives together with practical breathing techniques to relieve stress. We create calm, clarity and focus plus a happier and more productive work place environment.
Anxiety and Panic Attacks. Anxiety is sometimes linked to negative past experiences. Deep breathing allows you to focus on the present, by practicing the deep breathing techniques regularly you become more relaxed in yourself and know you have a coping mechanism if anxiety or panic attacks overwhelm you.
Anxiety when it comes to exams, driving test, public speaking, interviews, sport related pursuits.- By using deep breathing before facing important moments in our lives we ground ourselves in the present and focus with clarity on the task we face. 'What if' moments are banished as you are now in the moment rather than the future.
Stress – Practicing breathing techniques regularly and at times of overwhelming stress can relax us and help you remove yourself from the cause of stress until you are able to face the situation in a calm state of mind. We all need a little bit of stress to focus on the task especially at work but it's when the stress affects our ability to deal effectively with task in hand or creates overthinking, leading to sleeplessness and irrationality, illness etc that we need a method to self calm.
Stress related diseases. (Asthma, high blood pressure, restless leg syndrome etc) By breathing deeply we send carbon dioxide to all our organs to enable them to function more efficiently. By having a method of relieving stress your body responds with increased health benefits.
Insomnia – By practicing deep breathing the body becomes relaxed and calm and negative thoughts that pervade our sleep time are banished allowing you a peaceful sleep. And you have a mechanism for you to return to sleep if you wake in the night.
Depression, Overcoming Grief – Deep breathing has been shown to alleviate and release negative energy. After several minutes of deep breathing serotonin and oxytocin levels rise which are natural chemicals within us that anti depressants mimic. You vital organs begin to work more efficiently which provides you with increased natural energy.
Lack of concentration – Deep breathing gives you focus on the moment especially if you are easily distracted by technology etc. You are able to centre yourself and give yourself more energy naturally.
Lack of focus in sport and life – Deep breathing is a tool that allows you to fully concentrate on the moment and your performance, you begin to feel life more intensely and think about the goal.
Emotional eating or overeating - Mindfulness allows us to break destructive eating habits, be aware of hunger and a full stomach and the reasons why we crave food in times of stress. A new found respect for the body allows you to self monitor the types and amount of food you eat. This is often not about what you eat but why you over eat. When you find balance and peace in your life normal eating patterns become easy and aids weight loss.
Obsessive behavior, Anger - Breathing techniques and awareness allow you freedom from overthinking and balance the mind and body to give you an awareness and tools to overcome unwanted behavior.
Fatigue – Deep breathing revitalizes your internal organs and kick starts your immune system therefore energy increases.
Lack of libido - All energy is sexual energy so by breathing deeply into the whole of the body all organs including sexual organs are energized. By being aware of our breath so we are are our more aware of how our body feels, and we are able to feel sensations more intensely.
Recovering from Addiction - Meditation allows us to make calm rational decisions about what we put into our body, during deep breathing sessions the body naturally floods with the feel good chemicals hence when we feel naturally good about life and ourselves, the need to find artificial highs or an escape from our problems decreases. We are able to break the pattern of addiction as we are rewiring are brain to seek pleasure in other ways.
Recovery from OCD - Meditation allows us to free ourselves from the mind chatter telling us we need to do something e.g cleaning, checking etc and then everything will be OK. Breathing techniques allow us to step back and turn off the irrational compulsion. Medication is often prescribed for this condition but it never gets to the root of the trigger. Breathwork enables you to take control of your thoughts.
Breathwork Sessions
A one to one session in a tranquil environment can be just what you need to master the breathing techniques which will become second nature and a revitalizing part of your day.
Mindfulness and meditation classes are in most towns and cities but not everyone thrives in an environment where many people are crammed into one space.
Not everyone has the time to attend a weekly class when you could learn in more depth in just a couple of hours.
Previously I have worked in highly stressed corporate and creative environments so I have a thorough understanding of business life and family life. I have been practicing Meditation and Breathwork for over 25 years.
I have trained a cross section of society including Doctors, dentists, lawyers, CEO's of major companies, managers, nurses, social workers, cancer survivors and those in treatment, people suffering chronic pain and illness, depression and more, equally to those who just want to find more contentment in life.
I find that in a one to one session all your needs are addressed, I monitor and teach you the deep breathing techniques that are apposite to you so you achieve optimum success in a short amount of time. Instead of attending a weekly course you will begin to learn the skills at your own pace within a one 1.5 hour (€150.000) depending on your needs. I'm always available if you need to follow up. I also tailor make your 'homework' that fits in with your lifestyle.
In some circumstances consultations by 'Skype' may be appropriate.
